Band Wrist Curl
How to do band wrist curls with proper form to build stronger forearms and grip
Watch animated demo (GIF)How to perform
Sit on a bench or chair with your feet flat on the floor and your forearms resting on your thighs, palms facing up. Hold the band with both hands and anchor it beneath your feet or the bench so it stays tense when your hands are relaxed. Let your wrists hang past your knees so the hands can drop fully. Exhale as you curl your wrists upward, raising your palms toward your forearms and squeezing the flexors at the top. Hold the contraction for a moment, then inhale and lower the hands slowly past the neutral position to stretch the forearms. Keep the forearms still on the thighs and move only from the wrist.
Muscles worked
The wrist curl builds the flexor muscles on the front of the forearm, the engine behind grip strength. The biceps and triceps help stabilize the arm so the forearms can focus on the work.

Make it easier
Use the lightest band tension and keep the range of motion short until your wrists feel comfortable. You can also do the movement with just your hand and no band to learn the pattern.
Make it harder
Increase band tension or slow the negative to four seconds. Adding a pause at both the top and the stretched bottom position makes the set significantly harder without any extra weight.
Common mistakes
Mistake: Rocking the whole arm to curl the band up. Fix: Keep the forearms pinned to the thighs and let the wrist do all the work.
Mistake: Cutting the range short at the bottom. Fix: Allow the hands to drop fully so the forearms get a complete stretch on every rep.
Mistake: Clenching the band too tightly and tiring the grip. Fix: Hold the band firmly but lightly and let the wrist muscles control the movement.
FAQ
Why are wrist curls good for grip strength?
Wrist curls train the flexor muscles on the underside of the forearm, which are the primary muscles behind crushing grip strength. Stronger flexors make every pulling and carrying movement feel easier.
Can I do wrist curls with a band instead of a barbell?
Yes, a band provides constant tension throughout the entire range of motion and is much gentler on the wrist joint. Start with light tension and increase it only when you can control the rep.
